Mississippi: How do you see it?

Let's share our first impressions about the state. I 'll start and say that my first impression about Mississippi was something like, "Darn, is it really that hot?", and it was really THAT hot. However, as humans usually do, I managed to accomodate to the heat somehow and now it doesn't bother me at all (well, almost). Another thing that stroke my eye almost immediately, as soon as I stopped suffering from the heat and the jet leg though, was nature, the flora and fauna of Mississippi. Eagles, hummingbirds, and many-many other rainbow-like birds; deer, deer, and again deer (when you drive a car here, you see them more often); armadillos, foxes, opossums, skunks (not the most pleasant ones), and endless squirrels, tons of them, everywhere. I intentionally haven't mentioned the reptiles (don't even want to talk about them as they are present in high quantities here, oh, they are, believe me). I' ll continue later with the pictures, but here the talk is about the first impressions, so let's get back to that. To make it count three, I would mention one more thing that was a bit unusual to me: trucks. Everybody (well, many at least) drives a truck. Why?, I would wonder at first, it's so uneconomical, and they are just so big and clumsy. Of course, later I got many more other positive and negative impressions, but those three were among the first, and, thus, the brightest.

Intro

Yes, yes, I know, there are no elephants in Mississippi (literally, none of them). However, sometimes it gets so hot down here that it feels like savannah, and elephants don't seem to be so exotic anymore. Besides that, they are my favorite animals, and, since I am a moderator here, that is going to be our theme (well, at least for a while).
